Helen Dusek was born August 22, 1930 in Veseleyville, ND, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Blazek) Dusek. She grew up and attended country school there. Following her education she moved into Grafton. She was united in marriage to John W. “Bill” Sieben on October 25, 1955 in Grafton. The couple made their home in Grafton where she worked at the Ben Franklin Store and later the hospital. They moved to Charlotte, NC in 1988 for 2 years before returning to Grafton. Bill passed away on December 8, 2001 and Helen continued to make her home in Grafton, moving into the Leisure Estates Apartments in 2018.
She enjoyed her neighborhood friends, Birthday Club of 60 years and watching the Minnesota Twins. Over the years, she was an avid fan of the Grafton Spoilers and she never missed a girls basketball game. She continued to read books which kept her mind keen. Bingo and traveling to Thief River were also her favorites. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her.
She was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, the Grafton American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.
Helen is survived by her children: Debbie (Gary) Robinson, Charlotte, NC Al (Mary) Sieben, Grafton, ND, Janelle (Dan) Mortimer, Charlotte, NC, Brian (Laurie) Sieben, Grafton, ND and Beth (Clay Elliott) Smith, Sanborn, ND; grandchildren: Dane (Kelly) Robinson, Lindsay (Ben) Fussell, Katie Sieben, Ryan Mortimer, Cassie and Carlee Sieben, Kylie (Orlando) Anderson, Maddie Smith and Trierre Smith; great grandchildren: Carter, Collins and Hunter Robinson, Whitten Fussell, Cale Ludwig, Kashton and Jevyn Anderson; brother Raymond (Terry) Dusek, Crookston, MN; sister-in-law Clarice Dusek, Grafton, ND; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Frank P. Dusek, Benedict Dusek, Joseph Dusek and sister Mary Berg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Grafton. Memorial donations are preferred to the Leisure Estates Apartments and the St. John’s Catholic Church.
