Ian was only 18 years old, born on October 1, 2002. He left behind his father Nick and mother Anna-Marie, as well as seven siblings of various ages – Erienne, Mekayla (Thomas), Kiera, Tessa, Molly, Thomas, and Adam. In addition, he was close with the extended family of Les and Karen deLeeuw in Elm Creek, as well as maternal grandparents Peter and Molly Plug in Smithers B.C., paternal grandmother Lucy Barendregt in Smithers B.C., and many other extended family members. He also left behind a number of dear friends.
Ian worked as a fuel truck operator for Prairie Roots Co-Op in Elm Creek, and he loved his job and the meaningful relationships that he was able to build through it. In his spare time Ian worked for Starstruck Holsteins and Del Dairy farms, worked on his Jimmy, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and could be found fishing in all seasons of the year.
