Inez Marie Elverud was born October 19, 1932 on the family farm near Leeds, ND, the daughter of the late Iver and Marie (Paulson) Elverud. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Leeds High School in 1950. She then attended Minot State Teachers College for two years, earning her teaching certificate in 1952. She was united in marriage to Orville Laugtug on July 20, 1952 in Leeds. The couple made their home in Drayton, ND from 1952-1955 and she taught school there for one year. They moved to Hunter, ND until 1959 when they moved to Park River where she taught school until retiring in 1989. While teaching, she returned to school at UND in the summer months and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1971. Orville passed away on November 1, 1994 and Inez relocated to Fargo, ND until moving back to Park River in 2017. She moved into the Park River Good Samaritan Center in July of 2020.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, WELCA and attended bible study while in Fargo. She now was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Retired Teachers Association and while in Fargo a member & volunteer at the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed camping, fishing, babysitting her grandchildren as well as watching their numerous sporting events. She was an avid Minnesota Twin’s fan.
Inez is survived by her children: Loren Laugtug, Pasadena, MD, Lola (Paul) Hagen, Fordville, ND, Bruce (Jeanne) Laugtug, Williams, MN; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and sister Gladys Freund, Cando, ND, sister-in-law Elsie Elverud, Woodbury, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Harry and Lyle Elverud; sisters-in-law: Adeline Elverud, Hilda Laugtug, Edna Pierson, Betty Brustad; brothers-in-law: George Freund and Elmer Laugtug; and great granddaughter Tara Joslyn Hagen.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 11, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Park River Good Samaritan Center.
