Irvin Gerhard Wiebe
1942 ~ 2022
In the morning hours of January 13, 2022, Irvin Wiebe, 79, of Morden, Manitoba was received into the presence of the Lord whom he loved and served all his life.
Irvin was born October 21,1942, the second of four children born to his parents John and Mary Wiebe, who were farming in the La Riviere area. He often commented that he had the happiest of childhoods. As a young boy, he enjoyed all aspects of farming life. When he had to go to summer camp, he couldn’t wait for his parents to show up at the end of the week so he could go back to the farm. He enjoyed working on motors of all shapes and sizes, woodworking, and building many different contraptions that are still in use today.
Growing up as the son of a pastor had a huge influence on his life. Often his parents would host visiting pastors and conference leaders, leading to many discussions around the table with these spiritual pillars. Irvin developed a love for God’s Word early on, and he remained an enthusiastic student of the Bible his entire life.
Irvin’s love of farming led him to obtain a degree in agriculture from the University of Manitoba. He graduated in 1967, was planning to attend Expo ’67, and was all set for his future in farming. One day, two representatives from Manitoba Agriculture showed up at the farm and asked him to consider taking on a job as an agricultural representative. They were persistent, but after much coaxing, Irvin took the job. Five years later he became a farm management specialist for the province, and he never looked back. He loved his work and always looked forward to going back to the office on Monday morning. He was with Manitoba Agriculture for almost 40 years, during which he served hundreds of farmers, helping them with their finances.
Irvin was a faithful servant. During his lifetime he served on 22 different boards and committees. He enjoyed 13 years on the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation and 16 years on Morden City Council, many of them as deputy mayor. He also served on the Tabor Home board, the Manitoba Threshermen’s Museum, moderator and trustee of the church, Sunday school teacher, and more recently serving with the church’s senior ministry.
Irvin was taking a course on management when he met his wife Annemarie who was teaching in Sanford at the time. They were married on April 9, 1977, followed by the birth of two sons, Nathan in 1978, and Colin in 1980. Irvin loved his wife, Annemarie. They would spend hours discussing world events, prophecy which they both loved, debating theology, and travelling. Irvin and Annemarie created wonderful memories with their boys including annual ski trips to Banff and Northern Pines, a family camp which had a great spiritual impact on all of them. Irvin was an amazing father, although a bit of a softie.
It was his great joy to welcome his daughters-in-law and later six grandchildren into the family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Irvin loved gently but fiercely. He demonstrated the model of being a Godly husband and father -- he left us with very big shoes to fill.
Irvin is survived by his wife of 44 years, Annemarie, his son Nathan, daughter-in-law Andrea, son Colin, daughter-in-law Meagan, and 6 beautiful grandchildren: Nina, Naya, Niko, Oliver, Felix and Felicity. Irvin is also survived by one brother, two sisters and their families.
Irvin impacted many areas of life for many people. He left his fingerprints everywhere he went. He will be greatly missed in the hearts of those he served and touched.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the many people who have prayed for us during this difficult time, and for the food, flowers, phone calls, emails, and texts that we have received. We thank you for standing with us in our time of sorrow and loss.
