Jim was born in Linton, North Dakota, the son of Jake T. and Dorothy (Wenda) Fuhrer and lived on the family farm along the ND-SD border. He attended Herreid High School, graduated in 1970 and went on to Valley City State College. Upon graduation, with an Industrial Arts Degree, his first teaching position was in Fordville, North Dakota. He had multiple jobs until he applied for a job at UPS. He retired from UPS with a safe driving award after 25 years of dedicated service.
Jim met Barbara Anderson of Mobridge, South Dakota while in high school. They dated for 3 years and were united in marriage in 1971. They were the proud parents of two children, Jesse born in 1975 and Becky born in 1978.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman, who so enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and hopping on his motorcycle for a drive down the open road. Jim was thoroughly involved in every aspect of the building of the home he and Barb shared through the years.
Jim knew his Lord and Savior and trusted in His promises. He shared his faith at the Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Devils Lake.
Jim is survived by his precious wife Barbara of 50 years; son Jesse (Stacey) Fuhrer of Thief River Falls, MN and daughter Becky (Jeremy) Sorenson of Buchanan, ND; grandchildren Megan, Jason and Kora Fuhrer, Jaden and Brynn Sorenson; sister Doris (Arlyn) Van Beek of Linton, ND and several nieces and nephews.
