When her father became very ill she and her sister took on more responsibility on the farm. At a very young age, she formed a love for dogs, horses, and the Pembina County Fair. Janice worked as a supervisor at the Development Center in Grafton for several years. Duane passed away in March of 1988. She enjoyed spending time with her children attending horse shows and riding in the parades. She raised her children to follow Christ and trust in the Lord.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Wayne) Wohl Hauck of Grafton, ND, Dana (Alan) Olafson of Edinburg, N.D., Daryl Lorenzen of St. Thomas, ND, Derene (Jerry) Mears of Andover, MN, Diane (Shane) Schlenk of East Grand Forks, MN; her grandchildren, Chad Brown, Brock Olafson, Shawn Mears, Chase Mears, Kristan Lorenzen (fiance’ Tyrel), Dustin Lorenzen, Kelsey (Durain) Hiten, Nicole Schlenk, and Carson Schlenk; and her siblings, Marybeth Gestson, Deanna LeBlanc, Pat Blada, Colleen Keena, Kathy (Allan) Halldorson, and John Rickbeil.
