Jean Hankey was born October 29, 1927 near Park River, ND the daughter of the late Carl and Edith (McAulay) Hankey. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River and attended the Interstate Business College. Following her education she worked at the State Seed Department in Grafton, ND.
On August 9, 1950 she married Howard Haave at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Park River, ND. They lived in St. Thomas, ND, Red Lake Falls, MN and East Grand Forks, MN. After his untimely death on May 25, 1966, Jean moved to Grafton, ND where she worked as a secretary for several businesses, including Walsh County Social Services. Jean retired in 2005 and moved to Park River, ND. In 2014 she moved to Parkwood Senior Living in Grand Forks. She had just recently moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton.
Jean was very involved with her church and was an Oblate of St. Benedict’s Monastery in Crookston, MN. She loved to play any kind of cards and was an avid reader.
Jean is survived by her children: Karen Iverson, Grafton, ND and Carl (Kathryn) Haave, St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren, one great grandchild and brother, John (Anna Mae) Hankey, Park River, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Thomas, daughter Barbara, brother Carl and sisters: Catherine and Mary Helen.
Memorial Mass will be Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Park River, ND. Jean will be interred at St. Dorothy’s Cemetery, Dorothy, MN. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Mount Saint Benedict, 620 Summit Avenue North, Crookston, MN 56716.
