Jennifer Katherine (Meade) Piro 63 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls in the loving care of family after a short battle with an aggressive form of esophageal cancer.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake ND on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. with a meal to follow in the church basement. Burial will be at a later date in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Jennifer Katherine, precious daughter of Benedict Aloysius Meade and Rita Mae DeMarce was born on May 2, 1960 in Devils Lake. Kathy grew up int eh Woodlake area and attended Warwick Public School.
Kathy met the love of her life, Lawrence MacDowell and they would spend the next 30 plus years on a journey of love, life and devotion to each other. They started with the hotel industry in Fargo, ND for a number of years. This career path included working at Super 8 as a housekeeper for 10 years and then allowed them to travel all over the Midwest with their job. They were just loving life, enjoying it together. They loved all the different scenery. Larry would say this is “The Country Lived”. Eventually they moved to Sioux Falls, SD where they made their home for the past decade.
Kathy loved BINGO, garage sales, circle-o-word puzzle books, sunflower seeds (her favorite), lemons and game shows. She especially enjoyed Family Feud, Price Is Right, and Let’s Make A Deal. Favorite TV shows included Golden Girls, Threes Company, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie and Sanford and Son. On those beautiful sunny days, Kathy enjoyed riding bicycle around the neighborhood.
The loving family that survive include her common law husband Lawrence MacDowell of Sioux Falls; children Chrystal Meade Leftbear, Candida Lorraine Meade (Donna Duran), Angel Denise Johnson and Dennis Richard Meade; adopted daughters Amanda Leftbear Jerome and Raeann Leftbear Jerome; grandchildren Shakira Katherine Rae Meade, Felipe Mendoza Jr., Monae Soledad Mendoza, Brielle Jaden Ramariz, Yvonna Ann Jackson, Jacenya Carol Jackson, Travis Samuel BlackBird, Cole Andrew Jackson, Leilani Meade, Evan TwoBears, Kaiden TwoBears, Nathan Azure Jr., Jordyn Johnson, Thalia LaVallie Meade, Franklin Meade, Talin Redfox, Taniya Redfox, Taleya Redfox, Teagan Redfox, Ian Dogskin, Sophia Dogskin, Hansome BirdHorse, Wesley BirdHorse Jr., Weston BirdHorse, Delante McKay and Zurayah McKay; great grandchildren Ezekiel, Izayah, Léown, Kamiah, Santana, Armondo (I think I am still missing some??) sisters Marilyn Meade Hanson and Arlene Meade Neer; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Those who went before her include her parents Benedict and Rita, brother Geroge DeMarce and sisters Yvonne Meade Guy and Barbara Ann Meade and beloved aunts, uncles and grandparents.
