Joan Littlejohn was born July 26, 1932 in Drayton, ND the daughter of the late Joseph and A. Lillian (Hurst) Clifton. She was baptized and a member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church. She graduated from the St. Thomas Public School. She was united in marriage to Keith Littlejohn on April 14, 1949. The couple lived and farmed in the St. Thomas area following their marriage. She helped her husband on the farm. Keith and Joan wintered in Mesa, AZ for 40 years. They were married for 69 years.
Joan worked for 20 years with the United States Postal Service in St. Thomas, Grafton and other towns. At an early age Joan loved to ride horses. In the 1960’s she organized the town saddle club. She rode and placed multiple times at the North Dakota Horse Show Finals. Joan had many hobbies including: golf, shuffleboard, bowling, softball, gardening, needlework, ceramics and china painting. She had been president of the Fair Oaks Women’s Golf League. She participated in and won many golf tournaments and also had four holes in one. She was in charge of the St. Thomas Annual Golf Tournament for a decade and won 10 of the tournaments.
Joan was a member of the St. Thomas United Methodist Church and was involved with the churches choir, circles, flower shows, fellowship dinners and bazaars. She was a member of the Hobby and Culture Club for 20 years.
Joan is survived by her children: Wayne Littlejohn, Oakwood, ND; Cheryl Littlejohn and Roger (Cindy) Littlejohn, both of St. Thomas, ND; grandchildren: Amanda Jo Littlejohn, Grafton, ND; and Ethan (Amanda Jo) Littlejohn, Aberdeen, SD; great grandchildren: Quinn and Lincoln Littlejohn, Aberdeen, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband on April 18, 2018 and sister Eleanor (Walter) Braun.
Memorial services will be Monday, January 2, 2023 at 3:30 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at St. Thomas City Cemetery in the spring.
