John (Carl) Nelson passed away peacefully at Manitou Personal Care Home on July 25th 2022 with his sons by his side. Carl was born in Gregg, Manitoba on June 6th 1935.
Carl met Mary (nee Kraeker) in Carberry, MB and they were married June 15th 1957 at the Carberry United Church. After they were married, they lived in Melita where Warren, Brad and Terry were born and later moved to Morden where Rodney was born. He really enjoyed taking and watching his sons play various sports such as Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball and Hockey and even coached local minor league Baseball. He also served as one of the original founding members of the Lions Club in Morden, MB. Carl and Mary liked camping but really enjoyed the family cottage that was built by his family and friends at Pelican Lake.
Carl enjoyed golf and would often play before going to work. He liked to work with his hands – some of the things he enjoyed included carpentry, small engine repair and serving others who needed assistance. At one point he had a typewriter repair business in the basement of his home. He and Mary enjoyed board games, puzzles and numerous card games while spending time with friends and family. Carl loved music which included playing the piano and singing in the Church Choir.
Carl and Mary moved from Morden to Brandon in 1979 where Carl worked as a Sales Representative. This created the need for him to travel much of the time. During his time away from home, Mary kept busy working at the bakery in the Town Centre. She later joined Carl working along side him as a Custodian with the Rolling River School Division at Forrest, MB. After their retirement in 2000, Carl enjoyed gardening and trips to visit family and friends from Manitoba to Alberta.
Carl is survived by sons: Warren (Loretta); Brad (Carol); Terry (Marlene); Rod (Kathy). He also has seven grandchildren: Sherri (Jeff); Jason (Pam); Andrea (Dan); Thomas; Kayla; Mark; Andrew and eight great grandchildren: Oliver and Graham; Ethan, Harper and Beckham; Lukas, Lena and Anna. Carl was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary, his parents, Tom and Carrie Nelson and his only sibling, Clifford.
He was greatly loved, honoured, respected and will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
