John was born to the late Tom and Tina Lee on November 1, 1935 in Grafton, ND. He was raised in St. Thomas, ND. John attended and graduated from St. Thomas Public Schools. On April 21, 1957, John married the love of his life, Joyce Quam. They were married for 58 wonderful years, before her passing on June 13, 2016. He worked for the Whelan Brothers for 22 years until starting his farm career in 1975. He retired from farming in 1997.
John and Joyce loved traveling, camping, and spending time at the lake. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. Sharing his bountiful produce with everyone warmed his heart. John enjoyed going to every social event he could. He loved visiting with friends and even people he didn’t know. John volunteered for any organization that asked and lent a hand to his community whenever he could.
He loved spending time with friends and family, but especially with his granddaughters. He never missed any of their events, unless Kevin needed help on the farm. His laughter, kindness, and conversation will be missed by many.
John was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of St. Thomas, St. Thomas Booster Club, St. Thomas Fire Department, St. Thomas City Cemetery Board, and Drayton Factory District of ACSC.
John is survived by his children: Jackie (Kip) Severinson and Kevin (Tammy) Lee; granddaughters: Lexie and Adriana Lee; several nieces, nephews, and special friend, Mary Ellen also survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ted Lee, Anna Daniels, and Alice Shores.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at the former St. John’s Lutheran Church of St. Thomas. Inurnment will be at the St. Thomas City Cemetery following the service. A Celebration of John’s life will be at 4:30 at the St. Thomas Fire Hall after the burial, all are welcome.
