Kathleen was born in a farmhouse at Greenfarm, Manitoba. Completed grade 8, and as the first-born child in the family she worked alongside her father on the farm. In 1953 - 1954 Mom attended Elm Bible Institute in Altona, Manitoba. Mom and Dad got married June 3, 1956. They started their married life as farmers in the Carman/Homewood area. Mom was always a dedicated volunteer in her church communities, this included: Sewing Circle, Girls Club, Teaching Sunday School, playing piano for worship services and Girls’ Choir. Mom had a great passion for working outside and enjoyed many gardening creations with Rock Gardens and hours of lawn mowing at the Farm in Carmen. Around 1974 while Dad was building houses Mom completed the interior painting of those houses. Mom and Dad moved to Roland in 1978 and shortly after they joined the Grace Mennonite Church in Winkler. While living in Roland, Mom worked in the hardware section of Triangle Lumber she taught Ceramic Classes and was a proud volunteer in the community which included the Pumpkin Fair and senior activities. In later years Mom also worked at the Post Office, Homecare and did house cleaning. Mom and Dad always had a huge garden wherever they lived, in Roland that included fruit trees. In 2009 Mom and Dad retired to the Heritage Manor in Winkler, Manitoba where Mom volunteered at the Senior Centre and the MCC Thrift Store.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the friendship and assistance provided by Kate Friesen, Sig Pfhals, Mom’s neighbours Ella Neufeld and Mrs. K. Knelson.
