Kenneth (Ken) Gerald Petkau
1954 ~ 2023
Ken Petkau, 68, of Morden, Manitoba passed away on Wednesday May 10, 2023 at Boundary Trails Health Centre following a cancer diagnosis in November 2022.
Born on November 5, 1954 in Winkler, MB to Jacob and Ellie (Duerksen) Petkau, Ken grew up on a farm, attending Debonair and Burwalde Schools and later graduated from Garden Valley Collegiate in 1972. He attended Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Morden, where he met and fell in love with Linda Hamm. They were married in that same church on May 16, 1976.
Ken graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1978, and by later that year was working at Morden Collegiate Institute where he would proudly spend his entire career. Ken and Linda welcomed their first child, Andrea that November. Their second daughter, Amy was born in 1981 followed by their son, Adam in 1984.
Ken was an exceptional educator, who inspired countless young minds. His passion for knowledge and teaching, coupled with an endless amount of patience and kindness, extended beyond the walls of the classroom to all who knew him. Outside of school, Ken found joy in camping, sharing decades of memories with family and dear friends. Ken also loved music and could often be heard singing and humming along to his favorite songs. His deep, quiet faith in God guided him in everything he did.
Ken’s family held a special place in his heart. His greatest joy was spending time with Linda and their children and grandchildren.
He leaves behind his wife, Linda, daughters, Andrea (Kevin) Thiessen and Amy (Jonathan) Wolfe, son, Adam (Jayda Zacharias) Petkau, grandchildren, Jadyn, Rylee, Noah, Essa, and Ellie, one sister, two brothers and their families, parents-in-law, Otto and Susan Hamm, one sister-in-law, one-brother-in-law and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Ellie and one sister.
We as a family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful care Ken received during this journey. Thank you to our family doctor, Dr. Zhang. Thank you to Dr. Banerji, Dr. Dhala, Dr. Woelk, Dr. Nause and the amazing team at both Community Cancer Care and Palliative Care.
