Kristi Kay Hurst was born March 16, 1966 in Grafton, ND the daughter of Walter SR and Ruth (Christianson) Hurst. She grew up in St. Thomas, ND. She attended school at the Developmental Center and graduated from the Special Education program at Park River High School. Following her education she worked at Friendship Inc. operating Kristi’s Doughnuts and owned several vending machines which she operated until last month when she sold the business. Kristi made many friends with her business at Marvin Windows and Hanson’s Auto.
Kristi enjoyed competing in the Special Olympics, traveling with her parents visiting family all over the country and going on Disney Cruises. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She was named the Number 1 Sports Booster for the St. Thomas School and especially loved watching her nieces and nephews in their sporting events. Kristi was named the Outstanding Handicapped Entrepreneur for North Dakota at a ceremony in Bismarck, ND.
Kristi is survived by her mother, Ruth Hurst, Grafton, ND; siblings: Walter Jr. ( Marilyn), Joplin, MO; Marcia Stuve (Kenny Spandl), Staples, MN; Warren (Marie), St. Thomas, ND; Jeana (Timothy) Carlson, Healdsburg, CA; Robert (Kristi), Virginia, Norman (Lisa Oby), St. Thomas, ND; Kent (Karen), Hudson, WI; her godmother, Eva Russum, Fort Meyers, FL. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her father and brother Richard.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 29, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, St. Thomas, ND. Visitation will be Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at St. Thomas City Cemetery. Face masks are optional depending on individual comfort levels.
