Larry Dean McMillian was born on July 19, 1942, the son of the late Clifford and Ruth (Quist) McMillian in Grafton, North Dakota. Larry was raised and attended school in Grafton. After his education, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from 1960 to 1964. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Grafton. Larry worked for Hanson’s Service Station, Alchem, and American Crystal Sugar. He helped many farmers in the area and loved his time in the tractor.
Lars loved to garden, he helped his uncle “Fisken”, Norman Colsen, plant gardens of potatoes, sweet corn, and pumpkins through the years. This was one of his passions he continued for several years with his friend Chad Bjorneby, until his last harvest in the fall of 2022. He was a great softball player and played in local leagues. Lars enjoyed visiting with everyone and wouldn’t hesitate to find time to share stories. He enjoyed spending time with his children and took pride in his grandchildren and attending their activities.
Larry is survived by his children: Todd McMillian, Dillworth, MN, Donovan (Heather) McMillian, Grafton, ND, and Jessie Hunter, Billings, MT; grandchildren: Tara (Andrew) Sattler, Jenna (Jimmy) Sorum, Shawnee (Luke) McMillian, Piper McMillian, and Aidan and Addison McMillian; great grandchild Hazel; sisters: Barbara Larson and Norma (Earl) Olson; aunts: Carol “Tula” Kirsch and Marjo Sparrow; Janice’s grandchildren: Gavin Matcha, Kiah Coffman, and Taylin Matcha; and several nieces and nephews also survive. He is preceded in death by his parents and special friend Janice Wagner.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Bethel Free Lutheran Church of Grafton. A visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post of Grafton and the US Naval Honor Guard.
