There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, May 27, 2022 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Jim Paulson will officiate with burial and military honors to follow at the Devils Lake Cemetery.
LeRoy Marlin Olsen was born on February 2, 1938, the son of Carl and Marie (Diseth) Olsen in Edmore ND where he attended school and worked on the family farm.
LeRoy joined the North Dakota Army National Guard in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1991. In 1960, LeRoy began a career at Dodgetown which eventually became Devils Lake Chrysler Center, retiring in 1998.
LeRoy loved playing Bingo and playing cards. He also liked to cook.
LeRoy met and married Evelyn Shipley Kuntz in 1983 and became the stepfather to her 8 children, step grandfather to 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He loved all as his own.
LeRoy’s loving family include his stepchildren Veronica (Robert) Sailor, Pat (Mary) Shipley, Gordon (Shirley) Shipley, Micky Shipley, Kirk Shipley, George (Trudy) Shipley, Jackie (Tim) Lee and Dallas (Melissa) Shipley; brothers-in-law Mike Kuntz, Ray Kuntz and Jake (Helen) Kuntz; sisters-in-law Janet (Charles) Mertens, Theresa Kuntz, Donna Olsen and many nieces, nephews and their families.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Evelyn; parents Carl and Marie, mother-in-law and father-in-law Johanna and Peter Kuntz, five brothers Karrol, Clifford, Ola, Paul and Erling and three sisters Caroline Smith, Alyce Soper and Margrit Grenier.
Pa loved spending time with his children and all his grandchildren. He was a soft spoken man, very quiet man, but you always knew he was there. He will be deeply missed.
Casket Bearers will be Kirk Shipley Jr., Seth Shipley, Levi Shipley, Christopher Loehr, Troy DeMarais and Jonathon Haugen. Reading the Scriptures will be George Shipley.
