Louis was born August 14th, 1941 to Louis J. and Marcella (Schanilec) Kadlec at the Pohanka house in Park River, ND. He grew up on the Kadlec family farm. He attended Pisek Public School, graduating as the salutatorian in 1959. He attended NDSU and Mayville State University, until the smell of dirt caught his attention, and has farmed ever since. He married the love of his life, Catherine Sharon Hanson on September 4th, 1965 at Saint Luke's Church in Veseleyville, ND. Louis and Sharon started their lives and family on a farm north of Pisek, ND. In 2011 they retired and moved to Grand Forks, ND. Louis served on the Walsh County Mutual Insurance, Cenex, and Rushford Township boards, plus others. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a councilman for Saint. John's Church in Pisek. He was so proud to be a Eucharistic Minister and a lay reader in the Catholic Church.
Louis was proud of his Czech heritage, and in 2009 he and Sharon were able to visit the Czech Republic with Loren and Nancy Kadlec. He was privileged to find the homestead of the Kadlec heritage there. Louis loved to travel and always wanted to go back to the Czech Republic. He loved to research his family ancestry and remembered the finest details of anything. He loved history.
Louis had the gift of “gab”. He loved to talk with anyone about anything whether it was family, politics, farming, or the NDSU Bison. He was a diehard Bison fan, and lived for the green and gold, whether it was the Bison, or John Deere. Hail the Bison! Louis loved to read and enjoyed a good cup of coffee. Louis and Sharon were members of several churches, including Saint John’s in Pisek, Saint Mary’s in Park River, and Holy Family in Grand Forks (which they joined upon retiring).
Louis’ true loves will always be family and farming. He never missed any events involving the grandkids or family. He shared many stories and his own opinions. All those that knew Louis loved, respected and admired him.
He is survived by the love of his life Sharon, wife of 56 years. Kathy (Brian) Englerth, Grand Forks, ND. Louis Arnold (Jen) Kadlec, Pisek, ND. Julie (late Travis) Vorachek, Grand Forks, ND. Andrea Donais, Moorhead, MN. John (Amy) Kadlec, Pisek, ND. Louis and Sharon have ten grandchildren: Austin Englerth, Sydney Vorachek, Taylor Englerth, Ella Donais, Samantha Vorachek, Jacob Vorachek, Jonah Donais, Chloe Kadlec, Carson Kadlec, and Levi Kadlec. Louis is also survived by his brother Terry (Wanita) Kadlec, and sisters Sue (Bart) Capouch and Pat (Ken) Kovarik. He is also survived by other brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis J. and Marcella Kadlec, his father and mother-in-law Arnold and Marion Hanson, brother-in-law Arnie Hanson, and son-in- law Travis Vorachek.
Louis’ family would like to thank all of the medical professionals that have helped him through these past years. Louis is now at peace and is free of pain. No more pokes, Dad!
