1924 ~ 2022Maria was born April 26, 1924 the fourth of six children to Herman and Helena Heide. Maria’s mother passed away when she was eleven years old. Maria’s father remarried Maria Friesen (nee Wiebe) who also had six children. This union was blessed with two more children. Mom first met dad when they were students in Osterwick. Mom was smitten by his attention to her, but romance was on hold until later when they met at a wiener roast when she was nineteen. At 20 she married the love of her life. At 21, she had her first baby, a girl, Mary who was a preemie. Six months later, she was hospitalized in the Ninette Sanitarium for nine months. Dad worked at the sanitarium for a time so he could be near her. She improved after nine months and went home to have three more boys; Leonard in 1948, Edwin in 1949 and Larry in 1950. This exhausted her to the point of having to be hospitalized for the next seventeen months in the St. Boniface Sanitorium. During this time, dad took mom to a miracle healing service at the Winnipeg Roller Rink where she was prayed for and was miraculously healed. This was in January of 1952. She did not have a relapse in 71 years. Six years later in 1956, Fred came along. She was so blessed to be able to raise all her children. Mom came to know Jesus as her personal Saviour in her early twenties. When dad passed away in December of 2004, mom felt very alone. Arthur and Mary took her under their wing and helped her in her next phase of life. She enjoyed many Scrabble and Skipbo games. Her failing memory interrupted her quality of life in recent years. She would say, “I would obey all the rules if only I could remember them.” We will always treasure the time we were able to have with her.
Her family had reached 75 people: 5 kids and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Now we are 74. Mom was predeceased by her husband, George Enns and 1 daughter-in-law, Irma Klassen Enns, twins great grandchildren, Aylen and Declan Brown.
Mom passed into Glory on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 10:15PM with Arthur and Mary at her side.
We will miss you mom. We will see you again. Rest in peace.
