Maria Zacharias (nee Fehr)
1923 ~ 2021
In the mid-afternoon of Thursday October 21, 2021, Maria Zacharias went to meet her Lord and Savior after her residence at Salem Home, Winkler came to an end.
Maria was born the middle child of sixteen children to Jacob and Anna Fehr on August 30, 1923 in Wymark, Saskatchewan (CAN). She was baptized upon confession of her faith and later married Gerhard Zacharias on April 14, 1963. Maria became the stepmother to eight children and loved them as her own. In 1968, they had a son completing their loving family. She was a fun and loving mother, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great Great Grandma and Great Great Great Grandma and always made time for her family.
In her early 20s, Maria moved to Mexico with her parents where she met the love of her life, Gerhard Zacharias. Together they worked their farm and raised their family. In February 2000, Maria moved back to Canada. She loved to sew and spent her spare time sewing, reading, puzzling or making blankets for MCC.
She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters, Anna Martens and her husband, Peter Martens, Elena Abrams, three sons, Cornelius Zacharias and his wife, Eva Zacharias, David Zacharias and his wife, Helena Zacharias, Edman Zacharias and his wife, Margaretha Zacharias, one sister, Helen Wiebe and her husband, Peter Wiebe as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Gerhard Zacharias in 1999, her parents, Jacob Fehr in 1953 and Anna Fehr in 1950, four sons, Gerhard, Heinrich, Peter and Jacob, one daughter in-law, Elisabeth Zacharias, one son-in-law William Abrams and several aunts, uncles and grandchildren. Together her family totaled 9 children, 54 grandchildren, 188 great grandchildren, 217 great great grandchildren and even a few great great great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at the Winkler Reinland Mennonite Church with interment at the Church Cemetery in Schanzenfeld. A special thank you to the staff at Salem Home for the excellent care they provided during her residency. As well as Wiebe Funeral Home for their compassion and caring service at this time of loss, Pastor David Penner and his wife, Mary Penner for your visits and guidance and all those who supported us through prayers, visits, flowers, food and gifts and all who took the time to make Maria’s funeral so special.
