Marilyn Elshaug was born June 23, 1928 in Grafton, North Dakota, the daughter of the late John and Johanna (Anderson) Elshaug. Marilyn attended school in Grafton. She was united in marriage to Hans Clayton Hovde on December 16, 1947 in Grafton. They made their home in Grafton where they raised their six children. Hans passed away on April 7, 1984. While raising her family, Marilyn worked at Williamson Creamery, Grafton American Legion, and later at JC Penney where she was employed for several years. Marilyn enjoyed cooking for her family and making lefse. She was also noted for her quick wit and one-liners.
She is survived by her children: Michael (Bea) Hovde, Forest River, ND; Gail (Willy) Stoltman, Dazey, ND; Cheryl (Bernie) Davidson, Ridgefield, WA; Marlene Hagarty, Chandler, AZ; Guy Hovde, Grafton, ND; 14 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews, also survive.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Steven Eugene Hovde, and great-grandson, Zachary Wayne Osowski, sisters: Emily (Clarence) Viger, Mabel (Martin) Kennelly, Helen (Millard) Torkelson, Ruth (Roland) Riopelle, Ruby (Ernest) Skjerven, June (Harvey) Skjerven and brothers: Roy (Irene), Edward, Leonard (Martha), and Willard.
Private family service will take place at a later date.
