Marilyn was born September 23, 1936, to Herman and Bertina (Rotnem) Sobolik. She was baptized and confirmed in the Fordville Lutheran Church. She graduated from Fordville High School in 1954. She attended Moorhead State Teacher’s College and graduated from Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks. She worked at the University of North Dakota in the business office for 3 years. She married Lee Ferguson on June 30, 1959, in Fordville, ND. They made their home in Forest River where Lee farmed. Marilyn became a member of the Forest River Community Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was an Elder on the Board and a member of Bible study. She worked at the Forest River Bean Plant part time for 18 years and focused on raising her two children.
She was a member of the Forest River -Johnstown Homemakers Club, Eastern Star, and Red Hat Society.
Marilyn enjoyed socializing with her friends and spending quality time with her family especially her great grandson. She had a special way of connecting with anyone she encountered and a kindness that everyone could immediately sense. She followed the Golden Rule, “Treat others the way you want to be treated yourself”.
She is survived by her husband Lee; her son, Gary (Jami) Ferguson; her daughter, Debbie (Doug) Ferguson; granddaughter, Amy (Matthew) Kruse; and her great-grandson, Everett Lee. She is preceded in death by her parents; Herman and Bertina Sobolik; and her sister, Gayle Sobolik.
A funeral service will be held at the Forest River Community Church, on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Forest River immediately following the funeral.
