Marion Bergliot Onstad, age 90, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Park River Good Samaritan Center surrounded by her children.
Marion was born November 13, 1932, in Park River, the daughter of David and Alice (Flaten) Meberg. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in 1950 and from Concordia College in 1954. She was united in marriage to Merle Onstad on July 30, 1954, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Park River. She taught at WCAS for nine years, then became a full-time homemaker. When her kids were older, she returned to the school setting as the elementary school secretary, a position she held for thirteen years. She and Merle owned and operated King Koin Launderette for thirteen years.
Marion was a devoted mother and wife as well as a wonderful seamstress, hostess and cook. She was especially known for her flatbread and fresh peach pies which she gladly shared with family and friends. She was a life-long and active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Park River. Her community activities included Decca Club, bridge club, curling, and golf. She enjoyed music, 20-minute naps after lunch, watching old movies, and played bridge or pinochle almost weekly well into her eighties.
She will be dearly missed by her children: Kurt (Lori) Onstad of Park River; Naomi (Tim) Hurtt of Hoople; Robert (Jodi) Onstad of Denver, CO; and Sonja (Mitch Laycock) Onstad of Centennial, CO; her grandchildren: David (Kierstin) Hurtt; Kirsten (Josh) Lien; Philip Hurtt; Michael (Taylor) Onstad; Daniel (Sami) Onstad; and Henry Laycock; and her five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Bonnie Leis of Elbow Lake, MN and Ruth Kingsley of Arlington Heights, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband Merle; her parents; brothers Paul Meberg and Urby Meberg, and sister Margrete Skjerven.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River. Memorials are preferred to First Care Health Center, Good Samaritan Center, or Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, all of Park River.
