She was born July 16, 1939 in Devils Lake, ND to Roman and Marguerite (Artz) Schuler and was educated in Munich Public Schools, graduating in 1957. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN in 1964 and later a Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. She taught first grade at St. Peter’s Elementary School for a short time and then served as Home Economics teacher and School Counselor at Cathedral High School, both in Duluth. In 1971 she moved to Sterling, CO where she was employed as a School Counselor at Sterling High School until her retirement. She married George Bowin in Sterling in 1982 and was warmly welcomed into his family. Sadly, George passed away in 1985, just three years after they were married.
Marge was an avid world traveler, having visited numerous countries on all seven continents and many cities and regions throughout the United States. Her family members were often unsure of just where in the world she was but always knew she was enjoying her new experiences immensely. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed beautifully tailored clothing, including wedding gowns, for several of her sisters. She was also very skilled in both knitting and crocheting and gifted many family members with baptismal gowns and afghans for babies and adults. She treasured family time in Colorado with the Bowins and in Munich and at Wood Lake, ND with the Schuler clan during the summer and on holidays. She loved little kids, and they loved her.
Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was a member of St. Anthony Church in Sterling where she attended daily Mass and served as Eucharistic Minister. She was active in her community and enjoyed baking pies by the dozen for church, school, and other charity events. She also enjoyed working out and socializing at the gym with her Silver Sneakers group.
Marge is survived by stepchildren Daryl (Annette) Bowin, Akron, CO; Karen (Eddie) Bryant, Archie, MO; Martin Bowin, Loveland, CO; step-grandchildren Andy and Dallas Bowin, Amber Olson, William Bo Holley, Amy Zimmerman, Jessica Whalen, Jennifer Appleton, and Jake Bowin and 21 step-great-grandchildren, brother Harold Schuler (Jan), Kinsale, VA; sisters Mary (Charles) Richards, Cook, MN; Irene (Jack) Meier, Hastings, MN; Linda (Gary) Nyquist, Crossville, TN; Ellen (Stanford) Erickson, Grand Forks, ND; and Patricia Nygaard, Shoreview, MN; sister-in-law Marcia (Sidener) Schuler, Bismarck, ND; and brother-in-law James Deibert, Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
