Mary Anne Paetkau (nee Dyck)
1941 - 2022
Mary Anne Paetkau, 80 of Winkler, MB passed away 2022 01 27, surrounded by her children at her hospital bedside.
Mary Anne was born June 11, 1941 in Winkler MB to Wilhelm and Marie Dyck. Her early years were spent in Gretna and Roseisle, MB. She married Peter B Paetkau in July 17,1967 and they had 5 children: Mary Melanie, Brian Rudolph Peter, Randolph William Sydney, Helen Melinda, and Leanne Melissa. They lived on a farmstead near Sperling. In December 1987, Mary Anne and Peter separated and then divorced years later. Mary Anne stayed at the farm about 2 years before purchasing a home in Myrtle, MB while Peter moved to Winnipeg. Mary Anne lived in Myrtle till July 2019 when she moved to an apartment in Winkler, MB. In January 2020, Mary Anne suffered a terrible car accident on a very cold day in which she trudged through snow and a high wind chill over 2 ½ hours to take shelter at a farm. She spent time in the hospital and recovered. Mary Anne was passionate about gardening, wine-making, fishing, site seeing, exploring, adventuring, and she loved her family and Jesus dearly and fiercely. She loved sitting by a fire and would often be sitting by one with friends and family. She also had a passion for helping others in counselling, lending a hand, spending time with friends, making new friends, building relationships and would give whatever she possibly could. What stands out the most about Mary Anne is her love for Jesus, her witness and her desire for everyone she met or interacted with to know Jesus. She was an amazing ambassador for and of Jesus. Throughout her life, she was involved in teaching Pioneer Clubs, teaching Sunday School, and leading Bible Studies. She attended the Bergthaler Church in Lowe Farm MB, Gospel Light Church in Carman, MB and Westside Church in Morden, MB. Mary Anne also attended Providence College in Otterburne, MB and obtained a diploma of Biblical Counselling in 1990-1992. In 1992, she received a certificate in Reflexology from Moreau Institute of Natural Healing. In 1994, she received a diploma in Child Psychology from International Correspondence Schools. In 1995, she received a diploma in Psychology/Social Work with highest honours from Universal Career Institute. She also started an introductory course to Psychology at University of Winnipeg in 1995 but did not finish. While taking these courses, Mary Anne also worked full time.
Mary Anne was predeceased by the following: Father, Wilhelm Dyck, Mother, Marie Dyck (nee Peters), Mother-in-law, Helena Paetkau (nee Schmidt), Father-in-law, Abram Paetkau, Nephew, James Dyck, Nephew, Don Hildebrand, Husband, Peter Paetkau, Brother-in-law, Barney Kroeker, Sister, Beatrice Kroeker (Dyck), Brother, Menno Dyck, Brother-in-law, Henry Hildebrand, Sister-in-law, Judith Hiebert (nee Paetkau), Brother-in-law, Norman Hiebert. She is survived by her five children and their spouses and children, her brother, Ed Dyck (Lena), her sister, Evelyn Hildebrand and sisters-in-law, Helen Dyck and Johanna Paetkau as well 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
