Mary Layhon was born September 15, 1924 to Alex and Lena Layhon in Pembina, ND. She grew up at Pembina and received her formal education at the Pembina High School. On October 22, 1945, she married John Bordeniuk After their marriage they farmed west of Pembina, ND. John and Mary spent winters in Arizona. It was there she learned to paint, a hobby which she enjoyed. She was a member of the Fort Pembina Historical Society.
She is survived by her sons, Richard and Ronald; grandchildren: Sandra, Mishelle, Steve, P.J., Wendy, and Susan; great-grandchildren, Angeline, twins Addie and Calvin, Isabelle, Simon, and Ian. Also surviving are her sisters, Doris Heiser, Annie Bergh, Helen Weleski, and Margaret Mattson.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, John, daughter, Marjorie, son-in-law, Bob Forbes, daughter-in-law, Mary, brothers: Mike, John, Alex and their wives, sisters: Barbara, Rose, Sophie, Catherine, and brothers-in-law, Mike Zaharia and Larry Younggren.
