Mary Heaney was born August 1, 1958 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of the late Allen and Doris (Gramlich) Heaney. The family moved to Grafton, ND when Mary was 14 years and she graduated from Grafton High School in 1976. She went on to attend Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, ND. Following her education, she returned to Grafton where she worked for the Grafton City Offices and the Walsh County Record. She was united in marriage to Gerald Schnellbach on August 16, 1980 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Grafton. She began working for the Life Skills and Transition Center in 1984 where she worked until retiring in August of 2020.
Mary was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. She enjoyed camping, watching the Minnesota Vikings and Wild, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren whenever she could.
She is survived by her husband Gerald, Grafton, ND; children: Adam Schnellbach, Jamestown, ND, Elizabeth Schnellbach, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren Lareah Schnellbach and Nikolaus Wollschlager, Moorhead, MN; siblings: Theresa Otto, Fargo, ND, Patricia (Peter) Stoute, Huntersville, NC, Christopher (Lynnette) Heaney, Jamestown, ND and Anthony (Christine) Heaney, St. Paul, MN; mother-in-law Agnes Schnellbach, Grafton, ND; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law John Schnellbach.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to mmihs.org in honor of her grandson who was diagnosed with the condition. Services will be livestreamed on the Tollefson Funeral Home, Inc. Facebook page. Interment will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
