Mary Demke (nee Krahn)1933 - 2022
On Friday, October 14, 2022 Mary Demke, age 88 of Winkler, MB passed away peacefully at Salem Personal Care Home in Winkler.
Mary was born on December 6, 1933 in Wymark, Saskatchewan to Bernhard and Katherina Krahn. She was the 5th child in a family of nine children. The family later moved to Reinfeld, MB where she spent her growing up years. Mary married Walter Demke on July 31,1955. They made their home on the Demke homestead north of Winkler raising chickens and growing crops. Mary was a baptized believer and a member of the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church. Here she was involved in serving meals at funerals and singing in a lady’s choir during the Christmas Season. Mary was an incredible cook, baker and seamstress. Her specialty was creating wedding and grad gowns. She enjoyed watching curling, hockey and baseball; she also participated in floor curling and golfing. For many years Mary volunteered at the Ag Society and MCC store. Family was important to Mary being involved and interested in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She adored the little people. Mary had a loving, caring and sincere heart and she enjoyed a good laugh.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her family, three daughters and two sons: Debbie (John), Cherrie (Pete), Howard (Lynne), Pam, Brian (Chandelle), eleven grandchildren: Derek (Leanne), Candice (Nat), Calleen (Corey), Alex (Randy), Jesse (Callie), Connor (Callie), Shaye, Emerson (Brandi), Alyssa (Jayden), Daisy and Lila, eleven great grandchildren: Owen and Connor, Sam and Katelyn, Chloe, Damien and Dexter, Mason and Rohen, Jace and Cole. Mary is survived by one brother and two sisters, four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Demke, by her parents, grandchild, Colin (stillborn), son-in-law, Albert Fehr, two sisters and three brothers.
Memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler with interment at Westridge Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Salem Personal Care Home, 165 15th St. Winkler, MB R6W 1T8. Thank you everyone for your sincere prayers and acts of kindness.
