Funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday September 3, 2022 at the Chortitz Old Colony Mennonite Church with interment to follow at the Hochfeld Cemetery. Viewing will be from 1PM-8PM on Friday at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler and at the church prior to the service. Donations may be made in Mary's memory to Union Gospel Mission.
Mary Heide (nee Wolfe)
1933 – 2022
On Tuesday August 30, 2022 our mom and grandma and great grandma, Mary Heide formerly of Hochfeld and Winkler passed away peacefully at West Park Manor in Winnipeg, MB. She reached the age of 89 years, three months and three days.
Mom was born May 27, 1933 to Aaron and Katherina Wolfe (nee Thiessen) of Chortitz, MB. At the age of 12, her family moved to Winnipeg. On May 24, 1953, she was baptized upon the confession of faith in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ at the Chortitz Old Colony Mennonite Church. Her marriage June 21, 1953 to the love of her life, Jacob Heide stayed fast for 69 years, five months and ten days. Mom and dad were blessed with two sons and one daughter, Jake (Merle), Aron (Barb) and Mary (John), ten grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Each new addition was a joyous occasion. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob December 1, 2021 and one great granddaughter at birth. Our parents farmed in Hochfeld until their move to town (Winkler). Mom was an avid gardener which her pantry boasted of. It was filled with the harvest of vegetables and fruit from their orchard. With skillful hands, her sewing machine provided many clothes for the family. Some of her accomplished handcrafts included knitting, crocheting, tatting, painting etc. The community “Sewing Circle” was an important part of her life for years. Later on, she committed to learning some computer skills which was a benefit with her involvement in the Agriculture and Horticulture societies. Mom enjoyed judging at fair c competitions across Manitoba.
