Mildred J. Kratochvil was born August 10, 1921 in Norton Township, Walsh County, ND, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kubart) Kratochvil. She grew up and attended school in Lankin, ND. Following her education, she was united in marriage to Wilfred “Bill” Machart on October 2, 1939 in Adams, ND. The couple moved to Seattle for a short time before returning to Lankin. In 1947 they moved to McCanna, ND where they owned and operated the town tavern. Millie later worked as a bookkeeper for the Elk Valley Farms until she retired. The couple moved to Park River, ND in 1994. Bill passed away in 2009 and Millie continued to make her home in Park River until the time of her passing.
Millie is survived by her children: Louise Novak, Park River, ND, Maureen (Rick) Larson, Fargo, ND, Larry (Renee) Machart, Grand Forks, ND; daughter-in-law Lillian Machart, Cooperstown, ND; 8 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; step sister Mary Oen, Seattle, WA; sister-in-law Betty Machart, Grafton, ND; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; son Thomas; siblings: Ernest (Mildred) Kratochvil and Sylvia (George) Dvorak; great grandchildren Rachel and Nathan; and son-in-law Bill Novak.
