Morris Vondra was born July 20, 1946 in Lakota, ND, the son of the late Frank and Genevieve (Olson) Vondra. He grew up several small towns in Walsh County. He enlisted in the US Navy in November of 1963 and served on the USS Skagit. Following his discharge in June of 1967, he returned to North Dakota and attended school at Lake Region in Devils Lake and later AVTI in East Grand Forks, MN. Upon completing his education, he began his over 40 year career as a truck driver. He was united in marriage to the love of his life Eileen Hildebrandt on October 16, 1993 in Grafton, ND. Following their marriage, he was employed by Strata Concrete where he worked until retiring in May of 2019 due to health complications.
Morris was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River; the Bosh-Ryba American Legion Post #157 of Lankin where he served as Past Commander, the Park River Ambulance and as a lifelong member of the Pisek Fire Department.
Morris is survived by his wife Eileen, Park River, ND; children: Susan (Gene) Cudmore, Grand Forks, ND, Jonathan (Elizabeth) Erickson, Grafton, ND, Frank Vondra, Park River, ND and Eugene Kamphug, Hatton, ND; 7 grandchildren; siblings: Mary Lou (David) Schnetzer, Grafton, ND, Elaine (Oral) Nikle, Grand Forks, ND, and Norma Czapiewski (Danny Brakke), Grafton, ND; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Carl and Marian Hildebrandt; sister Jeannette Longtine; nephew TJ Bergman; niece Jacqui Restemayer; sister-in-law Marlys Moberg; and brothers-in-law: Greg Hildebrandt, Russell Restemayer and Phil Palmer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River. Friends may also call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Lankin American Legion Post #157 and the US Naval Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery of Park River in the spring.
