Orville was born April 27, 1941 at the Aune homestead family farm home in rural Fairdale, ND to Edward and Wilma (Berntson) Aune. Orville attended Township School District #81 up till 6th Grade. He was the last class until the school closed. He then went to Fairdale Public School to finish elementary school. He later enrolled at Fairdale High School. He graduated from Fairdale High School in 1960. He attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND graduating with a degree in General Mechanics and Welding in 1962. He married Judith Ann Kemp in Hamilton, ND on April 8, 1966. He farmed the homestead family farm for 20 years raising cattle, hogs, and small grains and sunflowers. After which he was employed at Farmers Shipping and Supply in Edmore, ND for 8 years. He then worked for Cenex Fertilizer plant, later called North Star Coop as a floater operator in Park River for 23 years until retiring. In later years he worked for Borgeson Farms in harvest, Mark and Charles Novak for fall tillage and Johnson Potato wash plant. He also drove school bus part time for 2 years, and then full time for 2 years until health issues required him to retire.
He was active in his community which included: 4-H leader for several years, President of the Walsh County Crop Improvement Association, President of the Park River Aggies Boosters Club, which he was a member of until present, church councils at Hitterdal Lutheran Church of Rural Milton, ND, Mountain Lutheran Church of Adams, ND and later Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River, ND.
Orville was an avid sports fan, following his children and grandchildren when he could. The Park River Aggie football, basketball, and baseball were his pride and joy. He enjoyed supporting the Minnesota Vikings and UND Fighting Hawks.
He also enjoyed having coffee with his friends and couples breakfast once a week.
Orville is survived by his wife Judith of 58 years; children: Melanie (Johnny) Armstrong, Stamford, CT, Mark (Lynette) Aune, Thief River Falls, MN, Dale (Jen) Aune, Bellingham, WA, Danelle Aune, Stamford, CT; grandchildren: Jared Eng, Gunnar Aune, Alexis Armstrong, Megan Armstrong, Connor Armstrong, Aiden Aune, and Indigo Aune; siblings: Pearl Aune and Lorraine Aune; in-laws: Elaine Aune, Richard (Karen) Kemp, Pat Kemp, Rodger (Diane) Kemp, Daniel (Kaaren) Kemp, and Patty (Carson) Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers in infancy: Orville Dennis and Jesse Arnold; brothers: Walter Aune, Melvin Aune, and Floyd Aune, two sisters: Elda Watt, LaVerne Stone and in-laws: Paul Aune, Ronald Watt, Edwin Stone and James Kemp.
Memorial services will be Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Park River Area School New Gym. Please use the West Entrance. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-6 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at the Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River. Friends may also call at the school for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Victory Free Lutheran Church of Park River.
