Patty was born May 24, 1949 in Fort Totten ND to Fred Mense and Louise Blackbird, but was raised by her grandmother Florence Blackbird.
Patty held various jobs with Spirit Lake Tribe, Cankdeska Cikana community College and Four Winds School.
Patty received her education, attending Maddock High School, CCCC and Sitting Bull College. She was licensed in North Dakota to teach the Dakota language, culture and history.
Patty would do anything for her children and grandchildren. They were precious gifts whom she loved with all her heart. When she had time, Patty enjoyed playing BINGO, the slots and just getting together with friends.
Patty is survived by her children Alfred Longie Jr., Althea Sonya Longie and Welder Christianson all of Fort Totten; her many grandchildren; cousins Millie McKay, Louis “Dewey” Blackbird, Jerome “Jerry” Blackbird, Darlene Myhre, Jackie Peltier; god daughter Ervinetta Blueshield; god sons Faron Howard and Jamie Burdick; special grandson Eugene Christianson and other dear family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Florence and Charles Blackbird, granddaughters Heaven Leigh Longie and Paris Chopper, aunt Corrine Blackbird, uncle Jerome Blackbird Sr. and cousin Duane Blackbird.
Patty will be missed by the many hearts she touched in her lifetime, her many friends, co-workers, and family.
Honorary Bearers will be Patty's adopted daughter Germaine Thompson and many dear friends and relatives.
Gathering of family and friends on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and time of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with burial in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten.
