Rick grew up on the Spirit Lake Nation attending the Little Flower Mission School at St. Michael ND. In the early 1980’s he moved to Minneapolis MN and graduated from Heart of the Earth High School.
After graduating, Rick worked for a time as a corrections officer at the Ohio State Prison but after returning to Minneapolis he worked as a DJ and bodyguard. Both jobs allowed Rick to meet and become friends with many famous people including Prince and Steve Tyler among many others.
Rick loved music, loved being a DJ and volunteered as DJ at many events. Rick had a passion for several causes including Native Lives Matter and Black Lives Matter and participated in several protests. He also was able to articulate theses causes and speak on behalf of others.
Rick lived his life with gusto and felt so blessed to always have the love and support of his dear family and friends. He felt a sense of pride in his nephew Money Mike, because he is the one who bought him a basketball hoop when he was just a little boy and encouraged him to practice and pursue his dreams.
Rick’s loving family include his mother Mary Margaret Garfield, Devils Lake; brother Michael Meade, Fort Totten and sisters Cecille, Nancy and Winona; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Loucia “Roseann” Meade and Josie WhiteFeather, nephew Michael “Money Mike” Meade.
Casket Bearers will be Jared Meade, Jeremy Meade, Logan Robertson, Lucas Robertson, Candace Downwind and Micah Meade.
The wake for Rick will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2021 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Bdecan Presbyterian Church, rural Tokio ND with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Bdecan Church will leave on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. from the City Plaza in Devils Lake.
Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, August 5, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Larry Thiele officiating. Burial will be in Bdecan Presbyterian Cemetery.
