Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service and celebration of Rick’s life will be on Friday, August 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Trudy Dumont officiating. Rick will be laid to rest in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Richard Merle Anderson, one of 7 children of A.I. Milan and Mary (Wilhelmi) Anderson was born in Rolla ND on February 28, 1947. He grew up in Hannah ND and graduated from Hannah High School with the class of 1965. He continued his education at Valley City State University, graduating with a Degree in Education in 1969.
After graduating, Rick taught Mathematics and was the Girl’s Track Coach in Paige ND. Rick put his education to use in other ways and worked in Quality Control at the Nekoma Missile Site and Anderson Gravel in New Rockford.
Rick was introduced to his precious Sharlene Hoffman by her father and they were united in marriage on May 15, 1976 in New Rockford. In 1977, they moved to Devils Lake ND where they have lived, worked and raised their two daughters Shannon and Heidi through the years. Rick also began his 37-year career with North Central Planning Council. He was a dedicated, hard-working employee for the community of Devils Lake.
When Rick had some spare time, he was an avid golfer, enjoyed crossword puzzles and liked to tinker, especially woodworking projects. He shared his beautiful creations with family and friends and they were such special gifts. Rick was an active, dedicated member of the Masons and Shriners for many years, serving in many capacities with the Lodge. Spending time with family and friends were truly the most treasured times in his life. His family meant the world to him.
Rick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sharlene; daughters Shannon an her husband Joe Ebsen, Plymouth, MN and Heidi Anderson, Eagan, MN; sisters Linda (Phil) Schmaltz, Devils Lake and Lois Drumwright, Pascola, MO; brothers-in-law Terry Fauts, Big Lakes, AK, Bob (Sandi) Hoffman, New Rockford and Lester (Kimiko) Hoffman, Broomfield, CO; sisters-in-law Penny (Steve) Eidem, Greeley, CO and Deb Hoffman,, Evans, CO; many dear nieces, nephews and their families.
Those who preceded him in death are his parents, brother Milan Anderson, sisters Janie Anderson, Janet Anderson and Charlotte Fauts, in-laws Robert and Alerene Hoffman.
