Bob was born to Ann (nee Burke) and Edward Diemert on October 4, 1938 in Morden, Manitoba. He was raised in Manitou and Winkler before moving with his father to Carman, Manitoba in his early 20’s. This is when his aviation career began. Bob was a self-taught engineer starting with the building of his own car at the age of 14. He had many careers throughout his early life including running the movie theatres in Winkler and Carman. He met and married Elaine Roberts of Miami, Manitoba and they had three daughters.
Bob restored many old war planes. He flew his Hawker Hurricane as a stunt pilot in the Battle of Britain movie. He was an aviation pioneer in Canada and had many requests for interviews over the years. The National Canadian Film Board did a documentary about his accomplishments called The Defender. There were many articles written about him in the local newspapers about his various accomplishments. The most recent one was receiving the Queens Diamond Jubilee medal in 2022 for his accomplishments in aviation.
He is survived by his children Dianne Sauvlet (husband Rene, son Matthew), Tracie Diemert (husband Daniel), Cindy Penner (husband Russ, son Seth).
