Roger W. Tufte Sr. was born on March 22, 1945 in Lakota, ND the son of Clarence and Esther (Johnson) Tufte. He resided in Lakota his entire life. Roger enlisted in the United States Army and proudly and honorably served his country stateside and in Germany.
Roger married Barbara Winnegge on April 18, 1970. They lived all their life in Lakota and raised their children there. Roger worked at Hulstrands Construction, as a farm hand for the Ranch, Gordon Nelson and Farmers Union as a mechanic. He then went back as a farm hand for Ron Severtson before he retired.
Roger will be greatly missed by his children. His three daughters Tracey Tufte, Bobbi Jo (Scott) Ericksrud and Patricia Tufte; two sons Roger Tufte Jr. and Lenny Tufte, all of Lakota, ND; five grandchildren Dillin (Katie) Tufte, St. Michael, ND, Sierra and Shayla Ericksrud, Lakota, ND, and Zachariah and Arianna Kjorsvik of Lakota; two great grandchildren Elaina and Evelyn Tufte of St. Michael; his dog Marty; brothers Doug (Judy) Tuft, Audubon, MN and Norris (Kathy) Tufte, Hendricks, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Barbara; daughter Stacey Tufte; parents Clarence and Esther Tufte; brothers Dennis Johnson, Curtis Tufte and Jerry Tufte.
A Special thank you to the Lakota Good Samaritan Center, Red River Valley Hospice, and Altru Home Health Care for the wonderful care they gave our dad and especially the doctors and nurses at the Veterans Administration.
Funeral Services for Roger will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Laurie Pankratz, Pastor of the Lakota Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial and Military Honors will be in the spring in the Lakota Cemetery.
