Ronald George McMartin was born on April 13, 1943 in Drayton, North Dakota, the son of the late George and Mabel (Nygren) McMartin. Ron graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1961 and then attended North Dakota State University. Soon after he returned to St. Thomas where he farmed with his family and worked for Grand Forks Seed Company in St. Thomas as the Assistant Manager. Ronald was united in marriage to Bonnie Aasand on July 29, 1965 in Park River, North Dakota. The couple made their home near St. Thomas where they continued to farm until the time of his death.
He was a member of the Bethel Free Lutheran Church of Grafton and a past member of the Bethel Church Council. He was a member of the Two-Cylinder Club and enjoyed restoring two-cylinder John Deere tractors. Ron’s greatest passions were his family and farming.
Ron and Bonnie spent their winters vacationing in Hawaii before making their home at Sunland Village East in Mesa, AZ. It was here where Ron and Bonnie met some of their closest friends. He enjoyed going to music “jams”, concerts at the auditorium and playing shuffleboard. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with Bonnie watching Gunsmoke in the afternoons with a cup of coffee.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie McMartin, St. Thomas, ND; sons: Ron McMartin, St. Thomas, ND; Larry (Jacklyn) McMartin, St. Thomas, ND; grandchildren: Laura McMartin, West Fargo, ND; Rachel (Luke) Heuchert, St. Thomas, ND; Alex (Sunny) McMartin, Cavalier, ND; sister, Ione Priebe, Fargo, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be Friday, August 27, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. Thomas City Cemetery.
