RuthEtta (Veum) Volden, was born February 15, 1951 at Cando, ND, the daughter of Maynard and Geneva (Lawson) Veum. Ruth grew up in Cando and graduated from Cando High School with the class of 1969. Following High School graduation, she attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. After college, she worked in the banking industry for a short time and was then employed by West Fargo Plumbing as Office Manager until she returned to Cando in 1981. She was married to Warren Volden at Cando United Methodist Church on May 15, 1982. They lived in Cando for about a year and then moved to Grand Forks in the fall of 1983. There, she worked at Braseth Plumbing, Palay Display and finally, Economy Plumbing Inc., employed as Office Manager and Bookkeeper, where she remained employed until her retirement in 2008. She also taught Sunday school and nursery for ten years at Wesley United Methodist Church. In her spare time, not being the outdoorsy type, Ruth enjoyed doing cross stitch, collecting angels, dolls, vintage collectables, antiques and doing crossword and other word puzzles. She didn’t care to have her picture taken, but you would be hard pressed to find one of her without a smile on her face. She loved life and was especially proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Warren, Grand Forks, ND; children, DeEtta Sadowsky, of Cando, ND, and Mark Horner, of Severance, CO; 6 grandchildren, Jacob Sadowsky, Andrew Selk, Bryce Selk, Jeremiah Hill, Jade Plante, and Jacob Krisak; 4 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ronna Hoffman and Reva Veum of Fargo, ND.
