Selma Christianson was born April 23, 1922 in Kensington Township, Walsh County, ND, the daughter of the late Theodore and Kari (Gire) Christianson. She attended school in Park River, ND. She was united in marriage to Gordon M. Johnson on March 25, 1943 in Crookston, MN. They had nine children.
Selma worked in various places in the community, including the Good Samaritan Center where she worked as a dietary aide for 17 years. She retired in 1995 at the age of 73. Selma was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was involved in the women’s missionary fellowship and enjoyed bible study with other church members. Selma developed lifelong friendships with her church family.
Selma’s family was the center of her world. She loved them unconditionally. She was always true to her words and by God’s grace she was able to forgive and forget quickly. Through her faith she learned it is important to “Let it go and give it to God.” She was devoted to her faith and trusted in the Lord with all her heart.
Selma enjoyed many things such as: reading her daily devotions, visiting over coffee, gardening, baking, bird watching, doing puzzles and playing Skip-Bo, Uno and Chinese Checkers with her grandchildren. She was the happiest when she was able to spend time with her family. She had a quick-witted sense of humor and loved to laugh.
Selma is survived by her children: Maryann (Charlie) Greicar, Bismarck, ND, Guy (Gail) Johnson, Edinburg, ND, Gordon Johnson, Minneapolis, MN, Judy (Keith) Papenfuss, West Fargo, ND, and Alan (Jeanette) Johnson, Minto, ND; son-in-law Bill Folendorf, Bismarck, ND; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, brothers Clarence, Morris, Arthur and Nels, sons Richard and Wayne, daughter Karen, grandson Travis, nephew Wayne Christianson. Her daughter Susan Folendorf passed away on December 18, 2020.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Bethel Baptist Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery of Park River.
