Thomas Matthew Valentine was born on February 16, 1946, to William and Fannie (Dew) Valentine. Tom attended Langdon High School, participating in football, wrestling, and track and field. He was a graduate of Langdon High School Class of 1964. After high school, he attended North Dakota State University and participated in football and wrestling. He graduated from NDSU with a degree in physical education. Tom and Marie DuBord were married on July 18, 1970, at St. Benedict's Church in Wild Rice, ND. After their wedding, they moved to Mason City, IA, with an additional move to Forest City, IA. In 1979, they returned to North Dakota with their family to the family farm near Wales, ND, where they raised their seven children.
Through the years, Tom was active with the Langdon Little Guy Wrestling and Cavalier County 4-H programs. He was a proud recipient of the North Dakota 4-H Century Family Certificate in 2016, recognizing his family for over 100 years of service to the North Dakota 4-H program. Tom was a familiar face at the Pembina County Fair for over 30 years showing livestock and providing safety and security.
Tom had a solid moral and ethical belief that everyone should be treated equally and fairly. This belief was demonstrated in his daily life, which was instilled in his family. He enjoyed keeping up with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sports and academic activities. Many will miss Tom, but he will always be remembered as a gentle giant with a soft heart.
