Late afternoon Monday, June 7, 2021, exactly two years after taking his wife to ER for the last time, Alvin Fredrick Wiebe of Wellman Lake, MB formerly of Carman, MB, aged 70 years, was reunited with his love Linda.
Alvin was born on November 5, 1950, to Walter and Eileen (Friesen) Wiebe in Carman, MB where he received his education and met his love, Linda Giesbrecht, in junior high. They were married on September 25, 1971, in spite of protests it was harvest season because, really, good luck keeping these two apart. They started farming in the Homewood district, quickly joined by three daughters: Robin (1972), Crystal (1973) and Charlotte (1974).
Together they ventured west in 1978 to farm at Belleview where they expanded the operation to include market gardening and livestock, and he developed his own love of trapping, hunting, and fishing. They stayed eleven years making lifelong friends in both Belleview and Virden where they attended church. Many of the best family memories here involve a camper.
1989, the year of the fires, life took another sharp detour landing them at Wellman Lake. Here they settled for the next thirty years, becoming the icons at Wellman Lake Lodge. Many friendships trace their beginnings to the coffee pot here. Al, Alvy or Alvin was loved by many from across Canada and the USA, having made countless connections through his guiding and outfitting business. But he was especially loved by kids. Uncle Alvin's was the coolest place to go, with no shortage of teasing and laughter. That laugh will be sorely missed. Mom and Dad watched an entire generation grow up at the lake, some of them being instrumental in the extraordinary comfort care they BOTH received at the end of their lives.
In the year we should be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, instead they are survived by their three girls: Robin Wiebe (Swan River, MB), Crystal Wiebe Huhtala (Winnipeg, MB), Charlotte Church (Estevan, SK); along with three grandsons: Justin & Connor Huhtala, Levi Church (Taylor Schmidt); and one great grandson: Hayden Church. Alvin and Linda finally got their boys and adored them.
He is also survived by his father Walter Wiebe of Carman, sister-in-law Donna Wiebe (Winnipeg), sister Marlene (Heinz) Reimer of Winnipeg, brother Garth Wiebe (Steffi) of Carman, mother-in-law Agnes Giesbrecht of Winkler, brother-in-law Erwin Wiebe of Niverville, sister-in-law Lavina (Dennis) Krahn of Winkler and their families.
He was predeceased by his brother Gordon Wiebe (1979), father-in-law Bill Giesbrecht (2014), wife Linda (2019), brother Milton Wiebe (2019), mother Eileen Wiebe (2019). Two days following his passing, sister-in-law Laura Wiebe also joined them on the other side where we shall all meet again.
