John Worms of Morden MB, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 86, at the Lorne Memorial Hospital in Swan Lake. He was reunited with his beloved wife Helen, and is now in the Presence of his Lord and Savior!


John is survived by his daughter Bonny Fehr, his sons Roger (Anne) Worms; Melvin (Sheila) Worms; Jeremy (Kathy) Worms, and their families, also by 3 sisters Esther, Helen, and Betty, and his brother George.
He was predeceased by his wife Helen; his sisters Marion and Katie; and his brother Jack.


John was born on the farm south of lake Minnewasta. He spent his younger years learning the value of hard work on the farm. From a young age he dedicated his life to the Lord.
John met the love of his life Helen, at a youth event at Church and they enjoyed 63yrs of marriage. They once said the secret to their success was.. "I'm sorry. I love you. Please forgive me."


They had moved around many times in their early marriage, finally settling on an acreage west of Morden, where Fehr Glass & Aluminum had begun, and John became a part owner with the Fehrs.
As a carpenter, John enjoyed many years with Fehr Glass, where he built many lasting friendships with coworkers and customers.


After retirement, John still enjoyed driving past the construction sites, but he especially enjoyed checking on his kids' and grandkids' latest projects..always ready to lend a hand or share some wisdom. His involvement in his family was so appreciated and will be greatly missed!
But most of all, he (and Helen) taught us all how to love unconditionally; the importance of family; and the greater importance of Faith in Jesus, so we can all be reunited again in Heaven!

Delores "Dee" Schluchter
April 27, 1937 — January 3, 2025

​Delores (Dee) Schluchter of Fargo, ND and formerly of Cavalier, ND, peacefully passed away on January 3, 2025, at Eventide Senior Care in Fargo, ND. Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Cavalier Fire Department.
Dee was born April 27, 1937, in Minot, North Dakota to Dagmar (Jordheim) and Oscar Fossum. She grew up on the family farm near Westhope, North Dakota and graduated from Mohall High School. After high school she attended the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dee then moved to Cavalier, North Dakota to work at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital and in the office of Drs. Johanson and Helgason. There she met Dean Schluchter, and they were married on July 6, 1958, in Mohall, North Dakota. They made their home in Cavalier, living a short time in Tacoma, Washington when Dean was stationed at Fort Lewis, returning to Cavalier when Dean’s service was completed.
Dee was an avid painter, owning Dee’s Ceramic Shop and then later enjoying oil and china painting.
She is survived by her daughter, Shari Schluchter (Bill Frey); son, Scott Schluchter (Jackie); grandchildren, Kaleigh Frey, Steph Frey (Jake Fisher), Blake Schluchter, Lauren Schluchter, Grant Schluchter; sister, Margaret Hellebust; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marlene and Don Saiger; and several nieces and nephews.
Dee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; brother-in-law, Lidvin Hellebust; nephew, Brett Hanson; sister and brother-in-law, Judith and Gene Nicholsen; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Harlan Schluchter.

Joyce Koehne, 89, of Langdon, ND, passed away January 3, 2025, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Joyce Ann Rochel was born August 20, 1935, in Verdi, MN, to Roy and Anna (Aasen) Rochel. She grew up and attended school in Verdi, graduating in 1954 from Verdi High School. On May 27, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Marlyn Koehne, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Verdi. This was while St. John’s Lutheran Church was being built, where they were members until 1986. While members, Joyce was active in the Dorcas Society and as a Sunday School teacher.
Joyce and Marlyn farmed in the Lake Benton area, and Joyce worked for two grocery stores in Lake Benton. In 1972, they moved into Lake Benton when Marlyn took a job with Ecusta Corporation buying flax straw. This occupation took them to Watertown, SD, from 1984 to 1986 then brought them to Langdon, ND in 1986. While in Langdon, Joyce worked at the Haberdashery. They were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where Joyce was active in the LWML.
Joyce’s hobbies were collecting dishes, sewing, gardening, baking, and entertaining. She enjoyed sharing many of her recipes.
Surviving Joyce are her husband of 68 years, Marlyn, of Langdon; children: Steven Koehne and DeAnn (Roger) Kram; grandchildren: Christopher (Rachel Krosch) Koehne, Matthew (Natalie) Koehne, Sarah (Aaron) Breen, Rachel (Brent) Templin, and Jacob Kram; and great-grandchildren: Nicolas Koehne, Cameron Koehne, Sawyer Koehne, Violet Koehne, Matthew Breen, Luciana Breen, Carter Templin, and Landon Templin. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother LeRoy, sister Dorothy (Eldon) Johnson, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Koehne.
A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Langdon, ND. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 prayer service on Thursday, January 9, at Brooks Funeral Home in Langdon. Burial will be in Lake Benton, MN.
A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, MN. Burial will be at Memorial Hill Cemetery in Lake Benton, MN.
Memorials can be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church or Langdon Prairie Health.

Todd Johnston
April 28, 1962 — January 1, 2025

​Todd J. Johnston, 62, passed away in his home January 1, 2025.

Todd was born April 28, 1962 in Michigan, ND. He grew up, graduated and lived in Cavalier, ND until his passing.

Todd spent most of his life working for Mayo Construction and truck driving. In his retirement he enjoyed spending his time in the garden, laughing at his own jokes, going for 4 wheeler rides with his beloved dog Jaxon, watching races, and tinkering with different vehicles in the yard. Through his tough and stubborn exterior was a gentle soul that few got to see but all should remember.

Todd is survived by his mother Marlene Finnson, his children Savanna (Zach) Akes, Cole (Mary) Johnston, stepdaughter Desiree (Jon) Gabriel, his sisters Connie Hanenberg, Jennifer Johnston, and brother Justin (Amy) Johnston, his aunt Kathy (Jim) Foltz, as well as several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Todd is preceded in death by his father Jim Johnston, aunt Michelle Jesperson, and stepfather Sig Finnson.

Edith Doreen Fewster (nee Watson)
October 20, 1928 - December 31, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Doreen Fewster on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at the age of 96, at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, MB. With her daughters beside her, singing her favourite hymn, Doreen took her final breath and went home to be with her Lord and to be rejoined with her husband, Wendal on what would have been his 95th birthday.
She is survived by her daughter Shirley Pipke (Bill), son Garth Fewster (Diane), and daughter Marsha Murray (Clinton), grandchildren Colleen Dyck (Grant), Ella Rempel (Roger), Daniel Fewster (Nigel), Kyla Murray (Nathan), Brad Murray (Naomi), Sam Murray (Niki) and Brittany Houston, great grandchildren Georgia, Oskar, Leo and Moses Dyck, Charlie, Remi and Nina Rempel, Boaz, Hildi and Willow Fewster, Sierra, Barrett and Phoenix Murray, Jackson, Avery and Lincoln Murray and Torez Lawson.
She was predeceased by her husband Wendal, son Rick and daughter-in-law Debbie, as well as by all four of her siblings, brothers Les, Andy and Lyle Watson and her sister and best friend, Frances Sargeant.
Mom was born to Stan and Alice Watson at her grandparents’ home in Rathwell, MB. She completed her high school education in Rathwell and went on to Normal School to get her teacher's certificate. She often talked about her first teaching assignment at East Treherne School where she taught in a one room school house, wondering how on earth she managed to keep order when some of the teenage boys towered over her and how thankful she was that they were all respectful and obedient students and behaved well for their tiny little teacher. She moved on to teach in Starbuck and taught grades one and two there. This was her favourite age to teach and she had fond memories of her time there. It was while teaching in Starbuck that she met a certain young farmer from Sperling at a dance. She always said Dad duped her into believing that he liked to dance and had she known he didn't like to, she might have had second thoughts about accepting a date with him, because she adored dancing. We all have fond memories of Mom dancing her way through the house and watching her with her siblings at family weddings getting out on the dance floor to do a Red River jig or a polka - nobody could cut a rug like the Watson kids!
Mom continued to substitute teach after marrying Dad in 1951, but spent most of her time caring for her family and helping run the farm with Dad. Once her kids were grown she decided it was time for a new adventure and she got a job at The Valley Leader as a proofreader. She loved working there and was really good at her job. We had many people tell us they never found a typo, spelling or grammar error in that paper the entire time she worked there - she had an eagle eye and never let the paper go to press till she had combed every article and ad and corrected every mistake.
Mom was an active member of the community and could be counted on to help with whatever needed doing. She sat on many boards throughout the years and was proud of her contributions to the Snappy Stitchers, making Sperling Bears to help fund the new rink. If you have a Sperling Bear, chances are the ribbon it wears was tied by her hands.
Her favourite place to be was at the family cabin on Big Whiteshell. Her love of nature was deep and she could tell you the name of every tree, wild flower and bird. She spent countless hours out on the deck, just watching the birds fly over and listening to the waves lap on the shore below.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was so proud of all of her family and made sure we all knew it. Mom was one of the kindest, most generous people we've ever known and will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
We would like to thank the staff at Bethesda Place, Mom's home for the past three years. We are forever grateful for the wonderful care you gave her. She loved every one of you and told us every time we visited how wonderful you all are and how thankful she was for everything you did for her.
The memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 West, Steinbach, MB.
Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Sperling Cemetery at a later date.

Robert (Bob) John Stevenson
June 28, 1976 – December 31, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Robert (Bob) on December 31, 2024.

Leaving to cherish his memory are his loving parents Larry and Irene Stevenson, his brother Bill (Tanya); his nephew Jeremy (Tianna); his niece Emily; several aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as numerous friends and co-workers.

Ronald G. Anderson, 90, of Crary, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024. Born on October 15, 1934, to Eva (Sorbel) and Walter Anderson, Ron spent his life deeply rooted in the land and community he loved.
A lifelong farmer, Ron cultivated not only acres of crops but also a legacy of hard work and dedication. He raised Guernsey cattle, various breeds of chickens and fowl, and horses on his farm. His passion for animals was unmatched, and he found immense joy in caring for them. Ron also had a talent for gardening, repurposing items around the farm, and writing stories for his grandchildren.
 In addition to farming, Ron owned The Ranch Supper Club in Devils Lake during the mid-1970s to early 1980s. He was a familiar face behind the bar at numerous establishments in Devils Lake, Crary, Doyon, Southam, and beyond. Known for always lending a helping hand, Ron’s warmth and humor made him a beloved member of every community he touched.
Ron was an active member of several organizations, including the Shriners, Eagles, Elks, Jaycees, Crary Community Club, Ramsey Crop Improvement Association, and 4-H as both a member and leader. His contributions were recognized with honors such as Young Farmer of America and Outstanding Young Men of America.
He is survived by his sister Janice Wilhelm of Wyoming; his children Gayla Martin, Dawn Abrahamson, Tammy Hoefert, Kirby Anderson, Scott (Tammy) Anderson, Lisa (Terry) Thue, and Rhonda (Jeff) Russo; 29 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and another expected soon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Carol Anderson; sons-in-law Boot Martin and Sonny Abrahamson; and great-granddaughter Sophia Abrahamson.
Ron will be remembered for his love of animals, his gift for storytelling, and his ability to bring laughter to those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Butch Leedahl
September 2, 1951 — December 29, 2024

​Butch Leedahl, 73, of Crystal, ND, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024, at his home in Crystal. Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Hoople, ND. Visitation will be held for one hour before the time of the service at the church.
Gilbert “Butch” Leedahl was born September 2, 1951, at Grafton, ND, to Pete and Eliza (Ault) Leedahl. He grew up in the Hoople area and graduated from Valley High School in 1969, where he participated in all sports. After high school, Butch attended Mayville State College. He then bartended at Duffy’s Bar in Hoople for 50+ years. 
Butch enjoyed many years of hunting with family and friends, and always loved hunting with dogs, yellow labs being his favorite. He was also very active in playing golf and pool. In the spring, summer, and fall Butch loved being on the golf course, and in the winter couldn’t be kept away from the pool table. He loved watching and wagering on professional sports including the NFL and PGA Tour. He loved College Football and was a dedicated NDSU Bison fan. He also played slow pitch softball throughout his adult life and coached Little League baseball. Butch was also an avid reader of all types of fiction from Sci-Fi to World Wars and everything in between. His true love of the fiction genre was Western primarily Louis L’Amour. There were few Louis L’Armour novels he couldn’t cite chapter and verse.
Butch was a mild mannered and gentle person who was more interested in being a good friend than aspiring to greatness or success. He was an honest and trustworthy man with countless friends. 
He is survived by his sisters, Patty (Leedahl) Willey and Brenda (Leedahl) Jordan as well as nieces and nephews: Chad Hanson, Brett Hanson, Seth Jordan, Lindsay Fischer, Lori (Willey) Kiffmeyer, Michelle Willey, Donald Willey, and Angela (Willey) Dronen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy (Leedahl) Hanson; and grandnephew, Deklen Fischer. 

Shirley J. Byron
January 27, 1940 — December 28, 2024
Edinburg

​Shirley J. Byron, 84, of Edinburg, ND passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Celebration of life will be held at a later date. 
Shirley J. Byron was born January 27, 1940, to Torfi and Sigrun (Johnson) Gudmundson. She grew up and attended school in Mountain, ND graduating in 1958. She attended and graduated from Mayville State College. In June 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Oscar Byron, in Mountain, ND. 
Shirley taught in Osnabrock Township, then became a stay-at-home Mom. She later worked at area schools when her family became of school age. She worked at the Edinburg Superette before becoming a PMR for the Edinburg, and later Hoople post offices. She worked for the postal service for over twenty-five years. She very much enjoyed assisting and conversing with her customers, many becoming longtime friends. 
She was a member of the Pembina Hills Lutheran Church. After her retirement, she loved to travel, especially to Alaska. Shirley enjoyed playing pinochle, crocheting, flower gardening, crafting, attending concerts, and the occasional gambling excursions. She took immense pride in celebrating family events and attending her children’s, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s activities.
Shirley is survived by her children: Sherri Hurt of Hoople, ND; Kim (Jon) Ness of Devils Lake, ND; Kristi (Tom) Holm of Hoople, ND; John (Terri Nelson) Byron of Fargo, ND; and Kirk (Beth) Byron of Palmer, AK. She was Amma to Michael (Heather) Seim, Shelby (Ryan Lang) Ness, Jordan Seim, MacKenzie (Garret) Schemionek, Zachary (Hailey) Hurt, Lucas Byron, Morgan (Andy) Moe, Andrew Hurt, Katelynn Byron, and Austin Byron. She was Great Amma to Hayden Gehrtz, Tucker Lang, Madelyn Seim, and Krew Schemionek. She was sister-in-law to Marie Simundson and Catherine Byron. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Oscar; her parents; brother Todd Gudmundson; great grandson Oscar Seim; and numerous brothers and sisters in law.

Michael Lorne Grant Saunders
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, son, father and grandfather, Michael Saunders. Mike passed away peacefully on December 26, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 35 years, Cori and children Brittany (Brian) St. Louis and Cassy (Johnathan) Young and his grandchildren who were the center of his life: Ava, Jace, Owen and Hendrix. His absence will be felt by his mother, Tina Saunders-Reimer and siblings Judy Saunders-Penner, Carol (Ross) Wood, Gary (Lisa) Saunders, Kelvin (Brandi) Saunders and his many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He goes up to meet those who predeceased him, including his father Lorne Saunders and sister Deborah Saunders-Pickunyk.
Born in Morden, Mike was loyal and hardworking. He enjoyed being part of a close community and would often be found visiting with or lending a hand or an ear to his neighbours. He worked for many years in farming and at the Stephenfield water treatment plant facility before being diagnosed with a degenerative neurological condition. Through the change in circumstances, Mike maintained his joy and sense of humor, finding fulfillment in the increased time with his family and friends. Mike would often be found in his yard watching nature, gardening or tending to and growing vegetables from seeds in his home. He enjoyed cooking and was always looking for new recipes to try. He was extremely proud of his grandkids and enjoyed spoiling them with treats and gifts and taking them for rides on his golf cart.
Mike was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. We would like to thank all of those who have been a source of support and friendship for him over the years.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Boundary Trails Medical Centre rehabilitation facility.
The family will be holding a private service in the coming days.
