Gerald Richard Bounds was born August 18, 1938 in Joliette, ND the son of the late Roy and Margaret (Weis) Bounds. He attended schools in Joliette, St. Thomas, Pembina and Seattle, WA. Following his education he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on August 25, 1959. Following his discharge from the Marines he did two enlistments with the US Air Force. While serving in active duty he served three tours in Vietnam. He transferred to the Army National Guard in Grafton and completed his service retiring after 22 years. Gerald moved to South Dakota and worked for his brother at Bounds Electric. He was united in marriage to Diane Braddock on April 14, 1973 in Hoople, ND. The couple made their home in Grafton where he worked for Grafton Electric, the Developmental Center and Motor Coach Industries in Pembina. He retired in the late 1990’s. The couple moved to St. Thomas, ND and lived there until moving to the farm near Grafton.
He was a member of the Grafton VFW and Grafton American Legion. Gerald was an avid animal lover and had several fur babies.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, Grafton, ND; his children: Gerald Jr., Green Bay, WI; Kathy (Terry) Ebertowski, Grafton, ND; David (Tara) Bounds, Minto, ND; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and his brother, LeRoy (IlaMae) Bounds, Aberdeen, WA. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Evelyn, Helen, Rose, Nancy and brothers, Bert and John.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 3:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be Wednesday for two hours prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Grafton City Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to your favorite animal shelter.
