Dora was born on June 17, 1934 in Winkler, Manitoba and spent her childhood in Green Farm, also known as “Hilbront Darp”. Dora loved to spend the winters skating, so much she even took figure skating lessons. In school, when everyone was playing ball, you could find Dora in the teacherage taking sewing and knitting lessons. This creativity continued as she custom sewed for many people, including her daughters’ wedding gowns. Dora also knit countless mittens for Samaritan’s Purse.
At the age of 16 years, Dora accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour with her parents at her side. She was baptized in June, 1953 in the Winkler Bergthaler Church by Elder David Schulz.
Bill and Dora started dating in the early Fall of 1952. On June 26, 1955, Bill and Dora were wed in the Winkler Bergthaler Church. At 2:17 p.m., Bill and Dora said “I Do” and were blessed with 67 years of marriage.
Bill and Dora enjoyed their married life together farming, travelling and floor curling. Dora’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. Dora’s face would express her love when you would walk through the door. She would always welcome you with the biggest smile and you would often leave with a bag of her homemade buns.
During Dora’s final days, her greatest prayer was that we, as a family, would all be in Heaven together.
We, as a family, would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Boundary Trails Health Centre for the love and care that they showed mom. We would also like to thank Pastor Dean Huber for his prayers and compassion during this difficult journey. Thank you to family and friends for the many cards, visits and prayers and also thank you to Wiebe Funeral Homes for making such a difficult time easier for the family.
Please consider making a donation in Dora’s memory to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation, designated to Palliative Care.
